FroCos

First-Year Counselors (known as FroCos) are seniors in Benjamin Franklin who have been chosen by the Dean and the Head of College to serve as residential counselors and advisers to first year students. FroCos live in residence with the first-years, sprinkled among their entryways, and are an integral part of Yale College’s advising structure. In addition to serving as an advising resource, they assist with assuring the safety and well-being of the incoming class and are closely supervised by the Dean. FroCos are assigned a “FroCo group” of between 12-16 students, but first-years are welcome and encouraged to get to know the whole team and to go to any FroCo with questions or concerns.

Head FroCo

Ben Xu

Ben Xu is a Computer Science and Mathematics major from Columbia, Missouri. He sings in the Yale Glee Club, develops software for CourseTable, and serves as a TA for Computer Science and Math classes (MATH 2260 right now!). Ben loves spending time outdoors, and before becoming a FroCo, he led two FOOT trips into the Appalachians. In the CS department, Ben is passionate about the changes that AI is bringing to the field, serving on the Student Advisory Committee (DSAC) and conducting research on AI usage in introductory courses. Perhaps most notably, Ben has served as an intramural secretary since 2023 and hopes to help win Franklin’s first Tyng Cup this year. He’s so excited to meet the Class of 2029 and can’t wait to help make Franklin feel like home!

When not at Yale, you can find her back home in the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains in Lansing, NC. You can find her gardening, hiking, kayaking, hanging out with her little brother, or working as a barista in her hometown cafe.

emiliano

Emiliano Cáceres Manzano (he/him) is a proud Franklinite, but outside of Yale, he is from San Antonio, Texas, though he is originally from Mexico City. He is a creative writing concentrator in the English major, as well as a Film & Media Studies major, which really just means he spends a lot of time talking about books and movies he likes. Outside of class, he is a tour guide at the Yale University Art Gallery and an avid participant in the Yale theater scene. A former secretary of the Dramat, he has acted, lighting designed, props designed, and more, but his true passion is directing. He is also a Peer Mentor for Undergraduate Productions, so if you need any advice traversing the Yale arts scene at all, he would be more than happy to help! Beyond those things, he is an avid Spotify playlist maker and frequenter of Atticus. He can’t wait to meet the class of 2029 and to embark on this adventure of a year together :)

On campus, he is a peer tutor for the introductory biology sequence and an undergraduate researcher at the Bender Lab at the Yale School of Medicine, investigating the interactions between regulatory T-cells and vascular smooth muscle cells. He is also the president of Queer and Asian at Yale (Q+A) and regularly volunteers at HAVEN Free Clinic as a patient navigator. jacob

Jack Landau (he/him) is originally from Wellesley, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston and home of Wellesley College (go Blue!). Studying math, Jack has also nurtured interests in urban planning, sociology, and philosophy while at Yale, and he hopes his dedication to Intramural Sports may help him get a job someday. While at Yale, Jack has also worked as a Communication Consent Educator (CCE) and a FOOT leader, where he has been able to share his love of hiking and rock climbing with his trip members. A member of the Yale Symphony Orchestra, Jack absolutely adores classical music, although he likes to mix it up sometimes with jazz, rnb, or rap. He is so excited to serve as a FroCo this year!

This past year, she studied abroad and conducted independent research in eight countries, including Peru, Ecuador, Morocco, and Nepal. Outside the classroom, she’s picked up quilting, sewing, rhythm skating, and calisthenics,  and is currently on a mission to hit ten muscle-ups before graduation. Olivia is also a proud member of Club Jump Rope, where she spends her time learning cool tricks and cheering on her teammates. When she’s not in gym clothes, she’s probably dressed to the nines, headed to class with purpose. Olivia is beyond excited to welcome the Class of 2029 and can’t wait for late-night laughs, Bananagrams games, and all the unforgettable moments ahead.
